Call For Art at The 109CX

When I first arrived in Saline to take the helm as executive director at Saline Main Street, I thought how great it would be to have a mixed media arts space in the heart of downtown — something similar to Amazing Things Arts Center (ATAC) in my hometown of Framingham, Mass. I saw how instrumental ATAC was in attracting visitors and patrons to its small business neighbors, and believed that an arts and culture community space like that would benefit the small businesses in Downtown Saline.

That arts space vision included a galler

Major Dudes

Major Dudes formed in late 2015 with a simple mission: let’s make it hard on ourselves. That’s right. When Danny Taylor (keyboards and lead vocals) and Paul Laginess (bass and vocals) set out for seemingly the umpteenth time to put a band together - don’t ask - they figured the best way to finally solidify a project and to sustain it was to make it as appealing as possible, to themselves, naturally, and to any other musicians, they could enlist. So, the challenge for Danny and Paul was twofold. Select a bunch of fun, challenging and seldom-covered material (hey!…how about a Steely Dan tribute?), and find talented and like-minded musicians to fill out the lineup.

“I think that my finally coming around to this genre came from a handful of mid-Michigan area bands that have revitalized Jam…  That includes this band Pajamas, an Ann Arbor trio that have this mellow, melodic, smooth groove going on. Crisp, warm tones and harmonies and croony, cool vocals and really tight instrumental chemistry between them. Kind of arranged for psych-rock but also softer jazz vibes.”
