Sue Kelch grew up in a small rural town south of Lansing called Eaton Rapids. She enjoyed the country life surrounded by farms with agriculture and animals. Because of her love of a small community, Sue and her husband decided to move from Ann Arbor to Saline in 1994 and enjoy the many amenities Saline has, including Saline Main Street, Saline Farmer’s Market, Saline Fair and Celtic Festival.
Sue’s profession was in research administration and she retired after 36 years at the University of Michigan in 2022, while her husband worked there 27 years and is also retired. They have been active members of the First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Saline where Sue plays in the handbell choir. They are also active in the Saline Area Senior Center (SASC), while Sue is serving a two year term on the SASC as an at-large-member. Sue also serves on the Saline City Alpha Boards and the Saline Health Care Task Force.
Sue’s love for photography goes back to her childhood. Her first camera was the Kodak flashcube, while she currently uses her iPhone14Pro for most photos. She has always loved taking photos and organizing them. Thankfully her mother catalogued photos from the 1880s to modern times so the family can cherish them.
Photographs tell a story of not only the view it captures, but of who is behind the camera. Whether the photos are of family or friends, flora or fauna; from the backyard to the milestones or faraway travels, there is a tale to tell. Every scene captured was deemed worthy by the person taking them.
Photography gives us a place where we can effortlessly time travel. We smile when we see our grandparents, or beam when we watch our children grow up. We recall our first pets and school days. And we pay homage to those who have gone before us.
Pictures are the places we go and the people we see, memorializing our journey throughout life like pages in a diary.
Please enjoy Sue’s photos entitled “Salt City Scenes,” specializing in the natural beauty of Saline and surrounding areas.
