July 13 - Unkle Lay Lee’s Moonshine All-Stars at Salty Summer Sounds

July 5, 2023

From their website:

Take one part outlaw country, add influences of punk / funk / rock / jam band and soul, add ukulele and fiddle, and finish with some colorful storytelling earned through a life well-lived.  This is Unkle Lay Lee’s Moonshine All-Stars.

Join us for a special evening filled with fun, toe-tapping and all out dancing in the streets when Unkle Lay Lee’s Moonshine All-Stars come to town. With influences ranging from The Doors to Merle Haggard and all things between, Unkle Lay Lee’s Moonshine All-Stars is one of the most original musical experiences you will find.

June 22 - Step Aside at Salty Summer Sounds

June 1, 2023

Local favorite, Step Aside will be performing on June 22, with Ambrosity - an A2 Saline Music Center Student band, opening.

Step Aside covers classic rock, with a little country sprinkled in and have a wide following in Milan and the surrounding areas.  “We’re a 60’s band…because we’re all in our 60’s,” said rhythm guitarist, Curt Dettling, laughing.

Don’t miss this fun evening with recognizable tunes to dance in the street with!

Step aside takes the stage around 8 pm, Ambrosity opens it up at 7 pm.

June 15 - Salty Summer Sounds Opener

May 30, 2023

Our summer music series opens with the popular Dig-A-Phony - the Beatles Tribute Band - Live Beatles music, no wigs.

From their website:

Detroit’s own Dig A Phony is fanatical about reproducing songs from The Beatles recording catalog - LIVE.

From the cowbell in “Drive My Car”, to the handclaps in “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da”, to the kazoo sound in “Lovely Rita” (even though it was actually paper & combs), to the guitar fade out on “A Hard Day’s Night”– you will hear the song as it sounds on the album.

It’s a kind of “hybrid” approach to the whole Beatles tribute thing. We take the u

Public Poll | Traffic Calming and the Square

March 8, 2022
Survey | Walking around and shopping downtown should be fun and not scary.

One afternoon on the day before Christmas Eve 2021, a big semi-truck cut the corner from eastbound Michigan Avenue onto S Ann Arbor Street and plowed over a lamp post onto the sidewalk without stopping.

Be Bloomin’ means it’s Spring!

March 1, 2022

So grateful to think that temps are getting warmer and our downtown hanging flower baskets… last year they really did splash a ton of color from our lamp posts! It’s one of those things that we absolutely enjoy when we’re here. Our Design Team works with KBK Garden Center every winter to get our flowers growing on, and it really is a sweet effort.

And so this is how we roll to make those flowers spill over our sidewalks! Be Bloomin’ is a fundraising campaign to help provide these colorful flowers in hanging baskets that breathe beauty, color and life into our downtown each and every spring and summer.  Our petunia pots can be seen all along Michigan Avenue and Ann Arbor Street, from

How to Create Beautiful Welcoming for Downtown Saline

August 20, 2021
There is no doubt that traffic through the heart of Downtown Saline is brutal.

It is loud and it is wicked fast. And, it stirs a feeling within the very core of you, the pedestrian when waiting on the curb for the light to cross. If you have kids, chances are that you experience anxiety and even fear. For me, as much as I cross? I often envision what would happen if I, like my dad who has Parkinson’s Disease, lost my balance or simply faltered a misstep.

Sometimes it is downright infuriating. Double trailers, huge oversized trucks and semi’s crank through this intersection when it turns yellow and even red. The noise is deafening and the speed pulls at you and takes your breath away. This is NOT an exaggeration. The light turns to allow

The Importance of Umbrella Square

August 16, 2021

We recently received an email about Umbrella Square. It was more of a challenge actually, by someone who is a supporter of Downtown Saline, but who had questions about how this park-like space supports our brick and mortar businesses in the way they are currently forced to function. We thought we might share our response, in order to provide an explanation how the Square currently functions and why it is so vital to the safety, enjoyment and recovery of Downtown Saline.

The original email is copied and pasted here —

“I have heard over and over from friends or even nearby family, how THE LIMITED TIME the restaurants are open (No lunch hours and no Sunday or Monday )… and the displeasure of shutting a street for the city without offering
